Scarce Metal NSKK Car Fender Pennant
A fairly large sized pennant measuring approximately 15.5” from
hoist to the point and about 8.5” from the bottom of the hoist to the top, and
made of a sturdy (but not too heavy) metal. The pennant has a red base with
black borders. The pennant is in fact a heavy, printed decal adhered to the
metal base and sealed with a lacquer of some sort. The NSKK design is rendered
on both sides (disks with a narrow black ring surrounding a silver NSKK eagle
and scroll). The eagle highlights are done in black ink, with the correct
swastika orientation on both sides (not backwards on the reverse side). There is
some light overall soiling (minimal yellowing to the white portions of the
insignia), a nick or two here and there, a thin, vertical wrinkle in the decal
on at least the front side of the pennant (in what would be the canton area of a
regular flag) – likely there from the time it was first produced, and
permanent once sealed with the lacquer – and there are some light scuffs to
the gloss of the black border stripes, but overall it is a very fine piece. The
top edge of the flat hoist edge bar has some of the decal worn off, with light
oxidation to the metal, and there are a few small dents in the red field –
nothing that really distracts. There is a plated, tubular metal clamp affixed to
the top and bottom edges of the hoist, which extend rearward and slide over a
fender staff. One of these is stamped with an RZM mark and the maker’s RZM
code, M3 / 61. A spectacular collectible and desirable piece!
