FL-6d Army Nebelwerfertruppen (Smoke
Troops) Swallowtail Standarte in Miniature
Known in the American Army as a “Guide-On” - and carried by Units
even smaller than Regiment size - the German swallowtail format was
traditionally used by mobile / Motorized Units at Regimental level to indicate
the branch (since the field color was the same as that of the Unit’s branch of
arms – e.g. white for Infantry, red for Artillery). This miniature example
(for a desktop flag set) is a very impressive impression of a full-sized
swallowtail, with the woven cotton field being the reddish-purple branch color
of Smoke Troops. While the insignia on this miniature is an exact representation
of the full-sized version, it is printed on the fabric – there is no
embroidery. This miniature is two-sided (which means that the swastika
orientation is correct on either side), and you can feel a thin, but stiff,
shaped lining in between the two sides of the flag. All sides of the swallowtail
except for the hoist have a silvery-white colored, fine celleon fringe. This
particular miniature comes complete with its original dowel staff with a ball
finial, in fine condition. A terrific piece, especially complete with the pole.
