FL-6e Army Cavalry Swallowtail
Standarte in Miniature
The “swallowtail” flag form was traditionally used by mobile /
Motorized Units (non-motorized branches used the square 4’ by 4’ Standard).
This miniature example (for a desktop flag set) is an excellent replica of a
Cavalry branch swallowtail – the field is the yellow color used by this
branch, though perhaps with some slight fading from what was originally a deeper
canary shade. It is definitely not the lighter Signals yellow. The field has
some minor soiling along the hoist edges, but nothing that detracts. The
insignia represents the full-sized original standard very nicely, but it is
entirely printed – no embroidery. The detail is pretty crisp on each side. The
piece is two-sided, and this means the swastikas face the correct direction
regardless of which side you are looking at. There is a stiffener of some sort
between the two sides, so the little flag holds its shape nicely. All the edges
(other than the hoist) have a silvery-white celleon fringe. This miniature
Cavalry swallowtail is still attached to its original dowel pole (has a ball
finial) by means of three tiny metal tacks. The pole is in very good condition.
A great opportunity to own an authentic Army Cavalry swallowtail, standarte -
even if it is only for a desk set display!
