FL-72 Multi-Piece Hitler Jugend Banner
A real interesting piece that may have been hand-made, the red cotton
field is good quality, if a tad stiff, with the red color just a tad dusky. The
white cotton center stripe is an independent piece, with the red bands applied
to its top and bottom edges. The superimposed white cotton diamond on each side
is a separately-applied piece. The white fabric shows only minimal yellowing and
a few small brown spots here and there. The swastikas on each side are also
separately-applied and are themselves multi-piece construction. Their
slightly rounded corners and slightly uneven edge lines, however, suggest to me
a home-made, rather than professional, construction. The flag measures
approximately 2.5’ by 6’overall and is in nice condition with only a few
very small, nearly unnoticeable holes. A dark toned metal clip is attached to
the upper and lower corners of the hoist (the lower clip may have been
re-attached with a different thread color at some point). A short tab at the
center may have once held another, but it is no longer present. Nice flag
overall, and not the usual, silk-screen printed format.
