FL-89a Two-Sided
(Mirrored Reverse) Vizeadmiralsflagge - Flag for a Vice Admiral
This piece measures approximately 3.4’ by 3.4’, a great size!
It is a silk-screen printed Vizeadmirals flag and has some light soiling
and some moth hole peppering, but nothing that creates a distraction. The flag
is good size - just large enough to be very impressive - yet not enough that it
takes up too much space. Flags like this were maintained in stock on a vessel in
case a visit required one, but were only flown when a Vice Admiral was actually
aboard ship / visiting. Made of a medium-grade white bunting, the white field is
silkscreen printed with a large black Maltese cross that reaches from edge to
edge, while in the canton area there is a single large, solid black circle. The
flags reverse side is a mirror image of the obverse. Stamped in black ink along
the hoist on the rear side of the flag is the metric measurement: 1,5 by 1,5 in
meters (i.e. 1 ˝ m by 1 ˝ m) and the nomenclature only the abbreviation Adm.
(for Admiral) is visible. Just in front of this there is a period-repaired tear
in the hoist fabric. At the top of the hoist there is a braided hemp rope loop,
with the cord running down through the hoist sleeve to exit at the bottom as a
lanyard by stitches at each end of the hoist (over the rope) ensure the flag
doesn’t slip. A rarely encountered flag in quite good condition!
