FL-98 Captured Japanese National Flag
This is a real unique flag! The G.I.’s who captured it wrote tons
of information in bold black letters all over the entire flag. The top says
“Cookie” of E Company’s kitchen, the nickname of the G.I. who brought it
home. His real name is Sgt. Henry J. Laliberte of Pawtucket, R.I. He was a
member of the 130th HGC Co. 33rd Division. The bottom of the flag says that he
“Landed in Luzon on July 17, left Luzon on Sept. 18. Landed on Japan Sept. 25.
Visit Kobe-Himeji-Kyoto-Osaka-Honshu-Okubo”. Also listed in columns on
either side of the meatball are the camps that he went to, including Ft. Devans
(actually Devens) in Massachusetts, and six others. There are lots of fading to
the writing and the colors of the flag, but everything is legible. The flag is
produced in a soft silk and has some minor discoloration only. It measures 36”
tall by 26” wide (91.5cm x 66cm). An absolutely unique and interesting item!
