M-002a World War I Pilot’s Badge
This fine badge measures about 3” high – a very large award
compared to the WWII version. The imagery shows an oval oak leaf wreath spray
with an Imperial crown at the top. The bottom of the wreath has a ribbon. On the
solid background within the wreath, a very early, almost gossamer light aircraft
is airborne over a valley and some houses. The silver finish is handsomely
toned, with a range of lighter and darker areas. The reverse has a thin,
vertical hinge with a round shafted needle pin attached. The pin is no longer
true, having been bent several times during wear. A really impressive piece, so
let the pictures tell the rest!
