M-003 Cased Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross,
The “Holy Grail” 800 L/12 by C. E. Juncker with Full-Length Ribbon
The Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross was instituted on September 1,
1939 and was the highest award given to German soldiers during the second World
War. C. E. Juncker of Berlin, one of seven manufacturers of this award, was
known as one that produced awards of exceptional quality. The frame on this
particular example is near excellent, with a moderate amount of toning to the
obverse, and a minor amount to the reverse. There is a tiny “dent” on the
left (as viewed) 6 o’clock arm at the outside tip, this is barely noticeable
though. The core paint is 100% intact with light fading on the edges, and the
core is magnetic. This cross is textbook Juncker production in all respects! The
beading follows all of the correct characteristics, with the numerals and
swastika being the type expected on these. The reverse is stamped with the
silver content “800” followed by the LDO number of the manufacturer,
“L/12”. The ring for the ribbon loop is textbook Juncker, with its
“support base” giving the lower part a very broad appearance. The suspension
ring itself has beautifully finished tips and is stamped with the silver
content, “800”. This also includes an original case, which is finished in a
pebbled black leatherette. There is minor wear, mostly to the edges, but the
case exterior is near excellent. The interior features a white satin lining
(minor discoloration) on the upper lid and a compartmented lower section
finished in black velvet. This also has a compartment for the included
full-length ribbon. A near excellent, textbook example in every way that is
guaranteed for life!
