M-007 Special Badge for Single Handed
Destruction of a Tank (Sonderabzeichen für das Niederkämpfen von
Panzerkampfwagen durch Einzelkämpfer)
Commonly referred to as the Tank Destruction Badge, this features the
silhouette (in black) of a German Mark IV Panzer over a bright silver flat wire
thread background. The tank is made of a light metal and is secured to the
backing by means of three flat prongs that go through the material and wrap
around a metal support on the reverse of the badge. This is exposed, as there is
approximately 50% of the blue/grey wool remaining that was originally applied to
the back. The obverse upper and lower border are trimmed in a thin (3mm wide)
black cloth thread. These were awarded to individuals who single-handedly
destroyed an enemy tank, accomplished by a rocket grenade, hand grenade, satchel
charge or any similar hand held explosive device (panzerfaust). There are two
small holes on each upper corner of the badge, as if someone had it on display
and used push pins to hold it in place. A solid example otherwise of a scarce
and desirable badge!
