M-008 SS Long Service Award Third Class (SS-Dienstauszeichnungen)
This is a bronze, round medal suspended by a plain cornflower blue
ribbon. There is no device so this was intended for use on a ribbon bar. Given
for eight years of loyal service. This award was founded on January 30, 1938 and
was presented to members of the SS-Verfügungstruppen, SS-Totenkopfverbände and
the SS-Junkenschulen who were on active service and had served honorably. All
other members of the SS were eligible for only the NSDAP long service awards.
The obverse shows a large swastika with the SS sigrunen surrounded by an oak
leaf wreath in the center. The reverse shows a large numeral “8” with the
inscription “Für treue Dienst in der SS” (“For Loyal Service in the
SS”) superimposed over it. The suspension loop is shaped like a teardrop.
Minor discoloration to the metal but overall near excellent!
