M-010b Cased Luftwaffe Flugzeugführerabzeichen
(Pilot’s Badge), by Juncker
All active military personnel who qualified for and received a
military pilot’s license also received the Pilot’s Badge (the badge was not
authorized without the military license). This example is positively
spectacular, one of the best I have seen lately. The nickel/silver finished
wreath has 100% finish remaining, though a bit age toned for a lightly dusky
appearance. The sharply contrasting, oxidized silver eagle is quite dark, with a
few brighter highlight glints showing through along the narrower high relief
edges. The swastika arms are fairly thick. The relief detail is outstanding. The
reverse is in excellent condition. The eagle is clearly stamped with the “C.E.
Juncker, Berlin” mark. The round-shafted needle pin is in great condition,
with a pointed tip. The badge is housed in a dark medium blue leatherette
dressed hinged case with slightly beveled lid edges. The case is the slightly
larger variety, measuring about 3.25” by 3”. The leatherette shows a fair
amount of scuffing, with a patchy scrape to the material as well. The bottom of
the case has heavily scuffed corners. On the positive side, the hinge and
push-button catch release are in excellent shape. The nomenclature, embossed on
the lid in gold ink, reads “Luftwaffen Flugzeugführer=abzeichen.” (Fluzeugführerabzeichen).
Toning has rendered some of the letters almost as dark as the leatherette
itself. The blue interior has a nice, medium blue flocked lid lining, and bottom
panel, with some light soiling to the material around the badge. A very sound,
cased Juncker example!
