M-012  Scarce Tank Battle Badge for 25 Days in Actual Combat by Josef Feix & Sohne (JFS)
After June 1943, the basic Tank Battle Badge was deemed inadequate to represent long and continued service with Armored Units engaging in successive battles, so the pattern was changed to incorporate numbers which indicate the days of actual combat that the soldier had accumulated. This specific example represents 25 days, as indicated by the number in the box (with its gold finish toned and lightly visible) at the bottom of the badge. This is a solid, die struck example in zinc. The obverse has toned substantially, with the silver finish on the wreath and National emblem remaining approximately 50% intact. The tank, which has been separately applied to the badge, retains 90% of its original grey finish. The reverse, displaying a majority of the silver finish, reveals the sizeable and well-formed rivets that retain the tank to the badge. Also noticeable is the slightly concave shape of the badge and the depression in the back of the swastika formed during the die strike process. The coke bottle shaped pin is wrapped around the crimped on hinge, while the catch is produced in flat wire steel. This functions perfectly! The manufacturer's motto is seen in high relief on the side of the reverse, it is for Josef Feix & Sohne (JFS).  A sound plus example overall!
