M-013a Army Deutsches Kreuz (German Cross) in
Gold, Cloth Example
This example, in Gold, was awarded for outstanding achievement in
combat. It was instituted by Hitler to recognize a degree of bravery or service
above that of the Iron Cross First Class, but not sufficient to warrant award of
the Knight’s Cross. It features a central black swastika, outlined in bright
silver, over a white field. The white field is piped in a red cloth, over which
a gilt oak leaf wreath (with light toning) with the date 1941 is placed. This is
piped in a silver twist cord. The background, in two shades of field grey, is in
the pattern of a breast star. This is highlighted with bright silver bullion.
The reverse features a black paper for reinforcement. This is a choice example
of this desirable award!
