M-026 Cased “Verdienstkreuz
II. Stufe des Ordens vom Deutschen Adler” - Service Cross Second Class of the
Order of the German Eagle (Eagle Order Second Class, without Swords)
Another in the impressive series of Eagle Order awards.
This one, the pinback Second Class medal. The obverse design is the same as the
others in the series – though this example is the award without the crossed
swords. The white enamel in the arms of the slightly convex award has some
practically unnoticeable, tiny surface scratches – but absolutely nothing that
can be seen without a magnifying glass. The gilt finished reverse gleams, though
the gold is developing a light patina. The hinge is high quality, the pin is
very slim, though with a flared waist; the center is stamped with a “900”
for the silver content and beside this is a “21” maker code for the firm of
Godet. The award is very handsomely crafted, and the case, which is squarer in
shape (approximately 4.25” by 4.25”) than any of the other Eagle Order
cases, is equally well-made. The deep red leatherette case has a small scuff
line from the lid’s top edge with a few small nicks to the surface, but
nothing that really detracts from the visual image; the gilt embossed eagle and
pin striping is excellent. The hinge and front latch are in excellent condition,
and the interior of the case is very fine, with the white satin lid lining in
spotless condition, and the black velvet facing on the bottom of the case
equally so. A truly superb cased example of the pin back Second Class Eagle
Order award.
