M-034   Zeppelin Lot – Very Uncommon Find!
A real neat set that includes photos, a button, and two pins. There are two small black and white photographs which measure 3.5” by 2.25” (this a private photo), and another that measures 5.5” by 3.5” (a commercial print photo with postcard backing and dotted address lines).  The pictures are in great condition and show the Graf Zeppelin. The larger commercial shot has red bands with white disks and swastikas on the tailfins (address side is blank). The button is small – perhaps for a shoulder strap of an air crew uniform (it is a screw-on button, the base having holes for sewing to a uniform or jacket). It is gilt finished with fine ridge lines, and the raised image of a stylized eagle atop the globe with a swastika at the bottom. It is in fine shape. One pin is a lightly arched, round shape, with a blue enameled coating, and a tracery of lines forming a globe grid, with a zeppelin outline – all in what was probably nickel/silver; this has now toned a bit dark – almost golden. The outer inscription reads “Deutscher Zeppelin Reederei” (“German Zeppelin Shipping Company”). The reverse has a pin, with nice tension. The pin is only about .75” in diameter and is maker marked “Paul Kust Berlin” on the back. The second piece is the same slightly convex, round shape, also light blue enameled with a globe grid in nickel/silver longitude/latitude lines and a raised relief Zeppelin in nickel/silver. The nickel has toned on this piece also, but the Zeppelin still retains some silvery gleam. The reverse has a pair of prongs.  This is probably for a cap of some sort. This one is just short of one inch in diameter. Very neat set of rarely seen Zeppelin items!
