M-1001a “N.S. Gem. Kraft durch Freude, Gau Köln-Aachen”
Tinnie, Solid-Backed, Metal
Neat, rectangular tinnie widest on a horizontal axis; with the base
metal an aluminum alloy, and the background a medium grey blue semi-glossy paint
(a couple of small flakes missing) – used to fill the open areas representing
the sky. There’s a KdF emblem in the upper left, and a silhouette of Köln
(Cologne) – notable are the distinctive twin spires of the famous Cologne
Cathedral (Kölner Dom); in the foreground is a nicely detailed river cruise
vessel passing by, portraying the “Strength through Joy” theme. The
inscription reads “National Socialist Mutual (gemeinsame) Strength through
Joy, Gau Cologne / Aachen”. A really cool piece, with an excellent pin on the
reverse.
