M-200 Vaulted 1914 Iron Cross First Class,
with Original Case
A great example of a private purchase Imperial Iron Cross First Class
which retains an amazing 99% of its original glossy black core paint. The crown,
date and central “W” are as new! The 800 silver frame has toned to a dark
hue, the reverse still retains a fairly glossy finish with a bit of toning
present. Just below the clasp for the pin is stamped “800” for the silver
content of this example. The pin functions perfectly. Also included is the
original case, which snaps closed, is finished in a grained black leatherette
and has no exterior designation. The interior, finished in white satin on the
upper lid and white flocking in the lower section, is moderately discolored. The
upper lid features two thin strips of material meant to hold down the included
section of ribbon (one is torn loose on a side), while the lower has a recessed
pocket meant to hold the cross itself. Overall a near excellent example of a
scarce private purchase cross!
