M-264 Scarce Luftwaffe Operational Flying Clasp
for Reconnaissance, Air/Sea Rescue and Meteorological Squadrons in Gold with
Pendant
This desirable award (“Frontflug-Spange für Aufklärer) is in gold
and was awarded to personnel involved in Reconnaissance, Air/Sea Rescue and
Meteorological Squadrons who completed 110 such operational flights. The
addition of the hanging pendant meant that this was awarded to an individual who
exceeded this feat, logging and additional 250 operational flights! The clasp
features an eagle’s head (burnished finish 30% intact) with a large eye
encircled by a laurel leaf wreath with a swastika at the bottom. On either side
there is a series of oak leaves. It is produced in zinc and originally had a
gold finish that is missing from all but the pin and hardware. Speaking of the
pin, it is coke bottle shaped with a flatwire catch on a round base, which is
soldered directly onto the badge. A highly desirable, scarce example!
