M-264a Scarce Luftwaffe Operational
Flying Clasp in Gold for Medium, Heavy and Dive Bombers
Officially titled the “Operational Flying clasp for Heavy, Medium
and Dive Bombers” (“Kampf-und Sturzkampf-flieger”), this was initiated on
January 30, 1941. This excellent example, in gold, was awarded to any bomber
personnel to include dive bombers, transport and glider squadrons who amazingly
were able to complete 110 (!) or more operational flights. Its central motif is
a black finished (80% intact) winged bomb pointing downward, surrounded by a
wreath with a swastika on the bottom. On either side there are a series of oak
leaves. It is produced in tombak with a gilt finish that remains an amazing 99%
intact on both the obverse and the reverse. There is some minor verdigris
visible in the lower details of a few oak leaves, and minor toning as well.
There reverse has a long, slightly tapered pin with a round wire catch soldered
directly onto the badge. An excellent example of a super scarce award!
