M-290 General Assault Badge (AllgemeinesSturmabzeichen)
Grade One (Solid Version)
This badge was instituted on June 1, 1940 and was intended for award
to personnel who supported an attack but were not eligible for Infantry or
Armored Assault Badges. It was awarded to members of the Artillery, Engineers,
Anti-Tank and Anti-Aircraft Units that served the Infantry or Armor in an
auxiliary role in the conduct of the assault. Medical personnel were also
eligible if they cared for wounded under close combat conditions. This is a
later-war solid example, die forged in zinc with a subdued silver finish that
remains a solid 90% intact. The details are crisp with only minor wear. The
reverse features a narrow needle pin. The rugged hinge has been soldered onto
the reverse of the badge. The clasp consists of a round wire that has also been
soldered onto the back of the badge. A great example!
