M-291 General
Assault Badge (Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen) Grade One (Pressed Metal Version)
This
badge was instituted on June 1, 1940 and was intended for award to personnel who
supported an attack but were not eligible for Infantry or Armored Assault
Badges. It was awarded to members of the Artillery, Engineers, Anti-Tank and
Anti-Aircraft Units that served the Infantry or Armor in an Auxiliary role in
the conduct of the assault. Medical personnel were also eligible if they cared
for wounded under close combat conditions. This is a pressed pot metal example
with a subdued silver finish that is mostly gone, remaining about 25% intact.
The details are crisp with very little wear. The reverse features a crimped
sheet metal hinge with a round pin, the end of which is cut flat. The hinge is a
flat metal example, shaped like a “C”, that has been soldered onto the
reverse of the badge. A sound representative example of this type!
