M-291b General Assault Badge (AllgemeinesSturmabzeichen)
Solid, Unmarked Version but Certainly Made by Berg & Nolte
This badge was instituted on June 1, 1940 and was intended for award to
personnel who supported an attack but were not eligible for Infantry or Armored
Assault Badges. It was awarded to members of the Artillery, Engineers, Anti-Tank
and Anti-Aircraft Units that served the Infantry or Armor in an auxiliary role
in the conduct of the assault. Medical personnel were also eligible if they
cared for wounded under close combat conditions. This is a later-war solid
example, die forged in zinc and missing all of its original silver finish. The
details are crisp with only minor wear. The reverse features a narrow needle
pin. The sheet metal hinge has been soldered onto the reverse of the badge. The
clasp consists of a round wire that is crimped to a round base, which has also
been soldered onto the back of the badge. The silver finish is present on the
hardware. A close examination of the details and hardware tells us that this
example has been produced by Berg & Nolte. A sound, representative example!
