M-300 Panzer Assault Badge (Panzerkampfabzeichen)
in Silver
The Panzer Assault (or Tank Battle) Badge was designed by Ernst
Peekhaus of Berlin and instituted for use on December 20, 1939. It was awarded
to personnel who participated as Tank Commanders, Gunners, Drivers or Radio
Operators in at least three different armored assaults on three different days.
This was initially offered in silver only, as this later-war zinc example is,
with a finish that remains approximately 50% intact. The gracefully
scooped reverse on this die forged, solid example features a vertically mounted,
round pin which has a slight bend but functions perfectly. The hinge for the pin
is crimped sheet metal example, while the catch is a round wire attached to a
rectangular base plate. A solid, unmarked example!
