M-301b Silver Infantry Assault Badge by Fritz Zimmermann
Produced by one of the many independent manufacturers of the Infantry Assault
Badge, Fritz Zimmermann of Stuttgart, this example is produced in zinc with a
silver finish that is completely missing from the obverse but remains 80% intact
on the reverse. The badge is slightly convex, with a hollowed rifle on the
reverse. There is minor wear to the details. This example has “buntmetall”
hardware, in this case brass (“buntmetall” was the German term for any
non-magnetic, non-iron heavy metal). The hinge is a sheet metal type, but as
mentioned is produced in brass, as is the pin and what is left of the catch,
which is broken. The maker’s motto is seen in high relief just below the
hinge. A sound, representative example by a desirable maker!
