Formal Style Champagne Bucket and Matching Stand Set
Although Uncle Adolf himself did not indulge in alcoholic beverages,
some members of his staff, associates, and potential guest visitors did, and
this being the case no good silver service for the Führer would be without a
fine champagne bucket with stand! This incredible item measures about 27.5”
tall in total, with the stand itself just over 20” and the bucket just about
8.25”(it sits on the stand nestled on a disk-shaped plate, within a sidewall
rim - hence the bottom inch of the bucket is not visible). The entire set is
plated in silver, with markings on both the bottom of the bucket and the bottom
of the stand. The underside of the stand base is stamped “Wellner” and below
this, the numbers “20 45”. There is a multiple strike on both the Wellner
mark and the number. The underside of the bucket is marked “WÜRTT.
METALLW.FABRIK GEISLINGEN-STEIGE” (Württemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik).
Below this the mark “NS” with logo “WMF” and the number “24”.
Engraved on the side of the bucket is an approximate 1.75” high stylized eagle
(slightly over 2.5” wide) flanked with the formal pattern “A H” initials.
The same appears on one side of the base (the eagle dimensions are just a tad
smaller). The condition of the set if very good, with the silver plate lightly
toned (slightly bluish hue), but otherwise nice with hardly any scratches to the
bucket surface and only two or three minor dents to the reverse side (the side
opposite the eagle), which are hardly noticeable. The stand is also great, with
some scratches on the underside of the bucket tray (thus not visible), and a
small dent along the sidewall of the tray, which does not interfere with the
movement of the bucket when set into the well. Altogether an incredible set –
imagine your next New Year’s champagne bottle waiting to be opened, nestled
amidst a bed of ice in this fantastic AH formal bucket! Mega, one-of-a-kind
piece!
