S-051 SS Allach Porzellan Plate, Jul Fest ‘43
Though by this year the war may have been cutting into production of
other things, the Allach porcelain quality shows no hint of decline; it remains
superb on this example. A raised eagle grasping a sword and a cluster of oak
leaves in its talons fills the flat center of the plate and shows superb detail
- individual feathers and even the eye are all quite clear. The raised letters
of the inscription encircling the eagle are of perfectly equal size, crisp and
clear, and read “WIR WERDEN UNS SOLANGE HERUMSCHLAGEN BIS UNSERE VERFLUCHTEN
FEINDE SICH ZUM FRIEDEN BEQUEMEN” (“WE WILL STRIKE AROUND US FOR AS LONG AS
IT TAKES TILL OUR ACCURSED ENEMY SUBMITS TO PEACE”). There is some very light
soiling on the bottom front of the plate. A printed message in black on the
reverse of the plate informs us that this saying was the words of Frederick the
Great in a letter to D’Argens in the year 1758. The plate is full dinner plate
size (9.75” in diameter). A small sunwheel motif appears at the bottom of the
plate as a filler between the start and the end of the inscription. Below the
eagle appears “Julfest 1942” (Christmas 1942 in the sense of “Yule”).
The plate has two holes punched through the base rim on the reverse (four holes,
total, two on each side of the rim), through which runs a fine wire (for hanging
the plate). There are two very fine, interlocked black Sig runes (SS) in the
center of the reverse. Superb quality, with a superb eagle!
