S-063 Schellenbaum Eagle Top
Wow! This is one really spectacular piece. The eagle shows
impressive detail and is a full three-dimensional construction made of several
metal pieces mated together to form a large, but quite lightweight (hollow
interior) bird with outspread wings. The 100% original bird has a well-toned
finish that has taken an overall slightly dusky matte gold tint – but believe
me, this thing will polish to an amazing silver shine if you so choose! There is
a ring mounted through the beak, with a diameter about the size of a nickel
(this was a mounting point for a wire). The eagle is in excellent condition
other than for one small dent on one side of the upper beak. Somehow the top was
separated from the swastika and wreath. However a previous owner-collector found
an original and very similar type set up and mated them together. This
is a political style wreath and swastika (re-painted) base - an original
pole top piece that’s pretty close to the style actually used with this eagle.
Holes have been cleverly drilled up through the inside bottom rear of the
wreath’s top arch in order to allow a set of angled bolts to be run right
through the hollow wreath interior from the eagle talons, with the nuts attached
at the ends of the bolts (only slightly noticeable). The entire piece stands
about 14.5” high from the base of the plated pole socket to the highest point
on the eagle. The bird’s wingspan measures nearly 21.75” wide, and the wing
width measured from leading edge to rear edge feather tips is nearly 5” wide!
An amazing bit of regalia! Cleaned, this eagle will positively knock your socks
off!
