S-067 Likely 1871-1876 German Criminal Police
Official’s Warrant Shield, from Metz – Much Rarer than its Third Reich

This oval disk is a flat sheet of metal with a handsome, extremely
detailed imperial eagle affixed to the center. The bird has super detail and is
dark toned with soiling on the background around the eagle. The disk is longest
in the vertical direction (about 3.75”). Around the outer circumference of the
disk is the inscribed title “Kriminalbeamter d. K. Polizei-Direction Metz”
(“Criminal Official of the Criminal Police Central Metz”). Artificial
burnishing in the inset letters gives the disk great legibility. The aluminum
disk is somewhat soiled, but would clean up very nicely. The disk is complete
with its original brass teardrop link chain – toned but in excellent,
serviceable condition. A really cool police disk – though I am not certain of
the time period, (I would guess it’s about pre WWI).
