Salesman’s Sample Suitcase
Very interesting sample case, in the form of a portable
briefcase that a salesman for the firm that made these products would carry
along with him for display during his sales pitch to a customer. The black
leatherette colored case measures about 16.25” wide by 11.5” from back to
front, with a depth of about 2.75”. It is in pretty good condition with
metal reinforced corner plates, though it is missing the carry handle and the
latches have been removed (leaving open rectangular wells). The case lid is
lined in maroon satin, while the case bottom has three removable panel trays,
each with a padded maroon cord-flocked surface. A small leatherette pull-tab at
the center side edge of each tray allows it to be easily lifted / removed from
the case. The trays contain a wide variety of metal badges, stickpins, company
logo plates, tokens and the like, with burnished finishes, painted finishes and
enamel work as well. Although 35 items are missing from the case (slots are
bare, but the impressions remain), there are still approximately 73 original
pieces, including a Veteran’s 25 Year stick pin, a General Assault Badge stick
pin, and a wide assortment of company logos – all in very good to excellent
condition. A really cool set, and extremely unique!
