S-078 Large Canvas Tail Section from a
Luftwaffe Dummy Aircraft
Neat item! This section of canvas (measuring just less than 30"
by 30") came from the tail of a "dummy" aircraft . This
could be the type set up on an airfield (presumably to divert Allied aircraft
making strafing runs, from the real thing). The dummy aircraft may also have
been used by Luftwaffe personnel for target practice. The swastika is nice and
precisely painted, though due to the many years, the paint has developed a
finely flaked appearance, and there are wrinkled areas where some of the paint
is gone over the crease lines – it needs to be mounted! Displayed flat, backed
on a large matte within a frame, this large canvas cut will look very impressive
(and it’s better in terms of preservation)! The bluish-grey aircraft colors
are also visible as the background, though the fabric was trimmed quite close
around the outer edges of the swastika, to an essentially square shape. Really
cool!
