S-079a Original Hand Painted “Poster” for the
1951 Movie “The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel”
This is a very special, most likely one-of-a-kind hand painting done
in 1951 for the famous movie starring James Mason entitled “The Desert Fox:
The Story of Rommel”. The artist is simple noted as “Gary”. The painting
measures 18.5” tall by 14.5” wide (47cm x 37cm) while the overall dimensions
of the item are 23” by 17.75” (58.5cm x 45cm). It depicts Mason (as Rommel)
sitting atop a transporter (overlooking battle plans) in a desert scene with
tanks, mountains and fighter planes seen in the distance. His famous goggles are
atop his head, and he is wearing his great coat and binoculars. The colors
remain very vibrant, and there is virtually no wear to the painting. It has
holes around the perimeter, no doubt from when this was framed at some time in
the past. These are not in the painting itself! This awesome item deserves to be
framed once again, and would make an excellent addition to your “war room”!
