S-098 Sensational Wall Plaque,
Approximately 9.25” by 18.75”
Very symbolic of the union of Farmer and Factory (Industrial)
worker bringing together their strengths to create the soldier, backed by the
might of the nation in the symbol of an eagle. The piece is something of a
triptych – i.e. it is divided into three sections: two panels of equal width,
and a narrower, center motif that projects much farther outward from the base
(and gives the majority of the weight to the piece). This plaque was meant to
hang on a wall, though the weight of the center sculpture means it would really
need to be secured well so as not to tip forward and fall. The leftmost panel is
an industrial scene showing a factory and smokestacks and a smith with his
anvil. The right panel (as viewed) shows a farmer scything wheat, a windmill in
the distance. The centerpiece is a soldier at parade rest with his rifle, an
eagle behind and above him. The metal work seems so be plated, perhaps in
nickel/silver. There is some soiling and a bit of scraping to the plating at the
upper right corner of the right (farmer panel), and the plating on the sky of
the industry panel has but it remains all in all a spectacular piece, with the
original dark brown wooden frame (with hooks for hanging) in nice
condition.
