S-104 Interesting Trigger from British Spitfire
Joystick with G.I. Note
This neat item is actually a damaged trigger taken from a downed
British Spitfire. There is a note included addressed to “Dad”, and reads:
“Trigger - I took this trigger from the joy-stick of an English plane,
Spitfire. It crashed near our position. I’ve got a picture of the pilot
bailing out.- Your loving son, Johnnie”. It looks like it was literally
torn off the joystick, and is bent out of shape. It has a maker mark on the side
and a part number on one end, “AH016041”. The opposite end has the
inscription “OUT-FIRE IN-SAFE”. Traces of red over the “out” and green
over the “in” positions are seen. A very interesting item for sure! I would
love to see that picture he took!
