S-104 Super POW-Made Carved Wooden Plaque
A really cool item, this lightweight, thin wooden plaque started off at perhaps
an inch and a half thick and cut roughly 5.5 by 5.5 square. The Veteran
was probably an Afrika Korps prisoner, and the motif shows a globe with a
representation of Africa (stained dark brown), with the right side of the
continent carved into something of a tunnel through which is appearing a Panzer
(tank) roughly a Mark IV model. Its a very cool three-dimensional image,
with the original height of the block used to present the tank and continent in
detailed relief, while the lowest flat surface is now only about .25 thick. A
string for hanging the piece was attached to the top rear edge, with the ends
secured under a piece of paper tape. A truly unique piece of artwork!
