S-252 Feldernhalle Gorget
This is one of the rarest of all the production gorgets from the
Third Reich. This is for the small elite Unit which was the “honor guard”,
so to speak, of the entire SA Forces. Unlike most gorgets, which were meant to
be worn by the flag bearer, this gorget was issued to every Officer and Enlisted
Man in the Unit. It was to be worn only on special occasions, like parades and
guard duty. This is an honest, worn example with the stamped coronet shaped
breastplate retaining the majority of the muted aluminum finish, along with the
raised gold lip. The stylized gold eagle in the center is quite distinctive.
They are a few light nicks in the breastplate, but overall the condition is
quite sound. The felt backing on this example is black and has shrunk around the
edges. It may, in fact, be a replacement. Both retaining clips are
present. One is marked “RZM” and the other “83” for the manufacturer.
This solid example is complete with its original nickel plated chain, similar to
those found on Field Police gorgets. This is definitely one of the gorgets
missing from most collections!
