HG-1 Handsome Army Infantry Officer’s Private
Purchase Visor Cap
This cap is a nice example of a private purchase piece for an
Officer, made of a very light shade of field grey wool, with a smooth nap. The
top of the cap surface has some fairly light tracking, which can only be seen
under a close inspection at the right angle. There are a few very small nibbles
here and there as well, nothing that takes away from the overall look though.
The cap has a moderately high front peak and gently sloped sides. The white
Infantry branch piping is in good shape overall, with only some light
discoloration. The blue/green badge cloth cap band has light tracking to the
front and one tiny hole through the fabric at the cap’s left side. The
aluminum insignia is in excellent shape, with crisp details to both the wreath
and the Army eagle. The cockade has a red felt bull’s eye. The Officer’s
style chinstrap is fully intact and excellent as well, and is attached by means
of two small, silver pebbled aluminum buttons. The condition of the visor is
excellent! The crosshatched visor underside is yellowish-tan. Both sides of the
visor have a few stitches missing making it a bit loose. The stamped size 58
interior is near excellent with minor discoloration from use and wear. The tan
natural leather sweatband is perforated in the forehead area. The underside of
the sweatband is stamped with the size in black ink. The gold rayon top lining
has some very light soiling. There is a rhomboid shaped clear moisture shield
which has a small tear; the shield bears the name of the manufacturer in relief,
this says “Mützen-Special-Geschäft Stefan Noruschat Konstanz-Wollinatingen”.
The ink for this script is mostly gone, but being in relief it can be read quite
easily. A quite nice example of a high quality, private purchase Officer’s
visor cap!
