HG-106 Rare Brown Canvas Cover
for an Imperial Officer’s Spiked Helmet – All Clips Intact
This is a really unique item that I seldom ever encounter. It
is a near excellent condition brown canvas cover for an Officer’s spiked
helmet. The bottom edge is scalloped to fit the contours of the Pickelhaube
(spiked helmet) shell’s front and rear visors and it has four metal hooks for
attaching to the helmet. When you look at the form of these metal clips, it’s
easy to see where the clip idea - as it appears on WWII helmet covers - came
from. The brown canvas material has a tight mesh texture; it’s actually woven
from a combination of brown and black threads, with the brown thread
predominant. There is one small hole in the center of one side (about the size
of a pencil top eraser), but other than this the cover is unissued and in
excellent condition. There is a hole at the top of the cover to allow for the
Pickelhaube spike to protrude. Positioned above the helmet cover hole there is
another cone-shaped cover, attached to the main cover below it by four short
cloth strips – leaving a quarter-inch gap between the cone and the helmet
cover. The conical cover fits over the high-standing Officer’s helmet spike. A
very scarce cover indeed, in extremely collectible condition!
