HG-10a Army Officer’s Cap by EREL (Rare STANDARD
Model) for Administration
Very fine high quality cap piped in dark green for Administration
personnel. The body of the cap, which has the classic high peak and rounded
saddle shaped sides, is made of a fine quality doeskin wool. I searched
long and hard and found no discoloration or mothing. The brushed aluminum eagle
and wreath (trademark EREL vented cockade) match quite nicely. They are two tiny
holes on the front panel near the peak of the cap. I believe these were for a
different eagle. If so, it would have clearly been out of position so it
might have been a G.I. thing. The silver bullion cords and front visor are
choice. The size 55 liner has the golden crème colored lining with the rhomboid
moisture shield which is intact. This is quite revealing, as it lists one of
EREL’s distributors from the city of Stettin. His name was Paul Preuss.
Also present besides the EREL information is the model name, STANDARD. I
have only encountered this on a small handful of caps over the many years I have
been doing this. The front visor was loose and some collector put a tad of glue
to hold it in place. It’s not going anyplace, but it’s still loose in some
sections in the forehead area. The tan sweatband also has the company
information. Scarce maker information and model. Overall near
excellent.
