HG-120 Scarce Gau-Piped, Private Purchase
Political Leader’s Schirmmütze (Visor Cap), with Soft Visor
Real nice example with the top cover made of extremely fine ribbed
fabric - probably a blend. There is some light soiling, but no mothing, or
damage. The deep red Gau piping is in great shape. The front crown is fairly
high, well rounded with no real slope to the sides. The reddish-brown velvet cap
band is very clean. The insignia is a super set with the eagle’s gilt finish
at 100%, and the oak leaf wreath at 100% as well – though with light toning.
The cockade is separately applied, the nickel/silver ring having a dark patina.
The twisted celleon chin cords are as bright as the day they were manufactured,
some 65-odd years ago! The visor on this cap is a scarce variant, being made of
soft, flexible leather rather than the normal Vulkanfiber. It has the usual
reddish-tan lacquer coating, which is in surprisingly good condition (hardly any
crazing). The interior bottom has a black velvet insert that circles the entire
bottom of the cap. The approximate size 57 tan leather sweatband attaches to the
velvet. The band has had a replacement patch from another, fairly well matched
sweatband, sewn in along each end to the original band – apparently to replace
a missing or damage portion (probably collector done). The gold lining fabric
shows some moderate soiling and a small snag, or two. There is a full rhomboid
moisture shield, though this has some splits and a piece or two is waving. The
lining below the shield is marked with a silver crest of some sort, with perhaps
a company name (this mostly illegible), or quality slogan. A very unique example
of Gau Level Political headgear.
