HG-17 Army Administrative Officer’s
“Extramütze” (Private Purchase [Visor] Cap), Generic Logo
Fine cap made with excellent quality, light field grey doeskin wool
as the cover material. It has a nice, high front, though the peak is very
rounded – gently sloping sides, but no “point”. The dark green
Administration Branch piping contrasts well with the light field grey cap fabric
and the dark blue/green wool/felt cap band. There is some light moth tracking
and a few tiny nips to the fabric, though nothing that detracts - and the piping
seems untouched. The insignia is a really impressive set in Leichtmetall
(aluminum alloy) with not a hint of toning. The Officer twist aluminum chin
cords are excellent, and the visor has an outstanding gloss with no trace of any
crazing. The approximate size 58 interior has a clean, tan visor underside, a
slightly darker tan, natural leather sweatband, and a pale gold rayon lining.
The sweatband shows minimal soiling from light wear, but it otherwise in
excellent condition. Something was once affixed to the left side (probably a
paper tag) – the attachment threads remain. The rayon lining is in excellent,
clean condition and has a full (rhomboid) moisture shield, though this has a
couple of curved cracks in it. The shield has a gilt logo transfer embossed into
it, though it is a generic phrase only: “Deutsche Wertarbeit” (“German
quality craftsmanship”). A really fine piece of headgear for the collector who
likes caps clean!
