HG-18 Model 1934 Army Infantry “Other Ranks”
Overseas Cap, Very Early Manufacture and Unit Marked
This cap is actually dated 1935! Because of this, we know that the
machine woven grey over green eagle was added at a later date. It is produced in
field grey wool that is excellent with little to no wear or discoloration. There
is some very, very minor tracking in one spot only. There is a single
ventilation grommet on each side. The skirt is stitched to the body in the
front. The aforementioned eagle has been hand applied, as has the machine woven
cockade. There is a white soutache as well, indicating use by Infantry
personnel. The interior is fully lined in brownish green, ribbed cloth which has
minor discoloration only. There is an ink stamp from the manufacturer, Christian
Haug to go along with one for the date of manufacture, 1935, the size, 58 and
Unit marking, indicating it was used by personnel of a “wach” battalion in
Berlin. Quite the intriguing example!
