HG-20 Army Infantry Officer’s Private Purchase
Cap
This is a fine example in eskimo wool construction with a light field
grey color which shows only minor signs of soiling. The cap’s high peak and
saddle shape give this cap a commanding presence, and I am sure the Officer to
whom it belonged to had something to do with that! The cap body shows minor
tracking to the top and one small moth nip, but otherwise is very sound. The
white Infantry branch piping has toned to a brownish color all-around, but no
mothing at all. The dark green felt center band checks in at 100%. The eagle is
a handsome hand embroidered bullion example, and is a gem! The wreath and
cockade are hand embroidered bullion as well, which matches the eagle perfectly.
There is slight damage to the upper right corner of the bullion wreath where a
few of the strands of wire are missing. The twist aluminum bullion Officer’s
chincords are in great condition, and are the slightly larger diameter version.
The silver pebbled aluminum buttons for the chincord are present and accounted
for! The cap’s black lacquered vulkanfiber visor is ever so slightly checked,
and has a few chips to the outer edge. The interior is a seldom-seen color,
with the ersatz leather sweatband and under visor in a light grey, while the
upper liner is a (soiled) light green rayon fabric. The sweatband shows
significant wear all around, being cracked and torn in a few spots but still
very presentable. The under visor shows honest wear with the finish missing
where the cap would have been handled during its use. It has a diamond shaped
celluloid moisture shield in place. There is a manufacturer’s mark on the
moisture shield, but it is too worn to decipher (by me, at least!). Overall, a
great example that deserves a spot on the top shelf!
