HG-2b Army Infantry Officer’s Extramütze
(Private Purchase Visor Cap)
Nicely constructed cap with a sweeping, rounded front crown.
The cap wool is a nice grade of field grey doeskin, which is more a light grey
shade than green; very interesting, however, is that the bottom edge of the cap
uses a wool of a somewhat different color – a shade not accountable for by a
color shift due to sweat. This is a rare, but in no wise incorrect practice. The
wool material is in good condition with minimal tracking and only a tiny,
pinpoint hole or two - nothing particularly visible, though there a few small
nips along the very bottom front edge beneath the cords. The cap is nicely piped
in white cord for Infantry branch, which has only light soiling. The cap has a
clean set aluminum insignia (eagle and low-profile wreath) with a medium height,
metal cockade. The cap has the usual style of Officer twisted aluminum chin
cords (great condition). The Vulkanfiber visor has fine crazing and is a slight
bit loose, though this is not readily visible. The approximate size 57
reddish-tan colored, thin leather sweatband is complete and fully intact, and in
great condition – except that is has come loose in places from the velvet
insert strip around the base of the cap, and someone has attempted to help by
adding a few securing stitches here and there. The cap lining is copper colored,
ribbed heavy rayon, with some light staining (mostly under the fully intact
moisture shield). Stamped in silver ink on the fabric is “Stirndruckfrei
Deutsches Reichspatent” – a generic description (free of forehead pressure)
with the patent notice (the velvet insert is probably licensed from Peter Küpper).
A nice example of a generic, private purchase Infantry cap.
