HG-3 Army Other Ranks Infantry Schirmmütze
[Visor Cap], Well-Marked and Dated
Sound example of a regulation issue cap – if a slight bit
misshapen. It is made of good quality enlisted grade Trikot wool, with a
regulation Teller shape construction (i.e. round, plate-shaped top), with a low
front peak. The internal vertical front peak support (Stütze) was broken at
some point, so the cap front above the dark blue/green badge cloth band (fine
condition) leans forward slightly, rather than remaining vertical as it was
intended. The fabric condition is excellent (no visible mothing), and the white
Infantry piping is nice, as well. The insignia is a matching set in Leichtmetall
(aluminum alloy). The Enlisted Man’s leather chinstrap shows considerable
vertical surface cracking, but this is superficial and the strap leather is
otherwise intact, if totally matte in appearance; there is some light oxidation
on the buckles. The visor is intact, but slightly misshapen from improper
pressure during storage. The “56” size-stamped interior is very regulation:
all matching dark reddish-brown colors, with a natural leather sweatband stamped
on the reverse with a “Landes-lieferungs-Genossenschaft” (a consortium
producer) mark and date “1937”. The band shops honest wear soiling. The
cotton lining has no moisture shield, but the outline remains, where one used to
be. A little worse for wear due to poor storage, but capable of a really good
comeback given some careful blocking.
