(Overseas Cap) for Female Personnel
Headgear for female military personnel is uncommon at best! This
example is a real nice one, with the navy blue wool showing no tracking! The
super even “moleskin” finish is perfect. The side skirt is piped around the
top edge in golden yellow cord, this being the indicator for female personnel -
otherwise the cut differs not at all from the form used for male personnel.
The cord is in pretty good condition, with some slight changes in width, but
nothing marked. Two lines of orange (yes, orange) thread secure the skirt front
to the front body of the cap. There is an excellent Other Ranks style machine
woven (BeVo) National eagle in golden yellow thread woven into a dark
blue background - only a small nick in the threads along the upper edge of the
right wing (as viewed) prevent perfection. The eagle is applied to the center of
the skirt at the front of the cap - another distinction from the male cap (which
would have the cockade in this location – females did not use the cockade).
The cap is lined in a fine black cotton/rayon blend cloth, and marked in white
ink on the left lower side with “R.B. Nr. 0/0415/0023” and the size, 54.
There is no sign of any wear whatsoever – the interior is in perfect
condition. An extremely nice example of female Navy auxiliary headgear, in very
collectible condition.
