HG-32 Excellent Kriegsmarine Bordmütze (Navy
Overseas Cap) for “Other Ranks”
This is a prime example of the type! It is an “Other Ranks”
blue Garrison Cap (officially known as a “Bordmütze”, or “On Board Cap”
in the German Navy) made of medium weight navy blue wool. The exterior is
in superb condition with a short nap. The hand applied insignia consists of a
machine woven navy eagle in golden yellow cloth thread on a navy blue backing,
and a machine woven cockade on a navy blue rayon diamond. The cap is lined with
smooth-textured dark grey cotton (probably a blend with rayon) cloth and is near
excellent with minor discoloration. There are four tiny holes right at the
center of the forehead area. There is a size stamp of 57, as well as the
maker’s information, indicating production by Heinrich Balke Mützenfabrik of
Bremen in 19414. An excellent example overall!
