HG-33 Navy Officer’s Zweispitzhut (“Two
Pointer Hat”)
These hats were only authorized for wear on formal / official
occasions, accompanied by the full Galarock (parade coat), or, with the frock
coat in association with visits to foreign countries and funerals. This hat is a
bit worn along the edges of the front and rear duckbill points and one or two
other spots, and there is a small piece missing out of the base of the bill on
the right side. There is also some light soiling to the hat, along with toning
to the silver bullion accouterments. Overall, it rates a GOOD for condition. The
cap has the 4.5 cm black moiré pattern ribbon band (for Officers below Admiral)
running from the cap’s rear edge, up along the top and down the front to the
end of the bill brim, on each side. On top of the hat’s flat front and rear
bills, are the “Kordon” (silver bullion tassels which end at the brim
edges). These have taken on a very dark patina. The base of the hat is covered
in fine, soft black felt. The hat has the national cockade ribbon (lightly
faded) and a beautifully detailed, gilt Wehrmacht eagle button. The
“agraffe” (draped, spiral gilt cords) are impressive! The hat lining is
white silk, with a thin, light tan colored sweatband. There is some light
soiling, but no damage – and the little bow at the rear of the sweatband is
still in place. A pretty sound example of an extremely traditional type of naval
headgear!
