HG-41 EXTREMELY Rare Waffen-SS "Other
Ranks" Visor Cap by Robert Lubstein (ErEl)
This example is one of only a very few known of this type
("Other Ranks") produced by the prestigious firm of Robert Lubstein (ErEl).
This cap has a great look, with a prominent front peak that is slightly
"pinched" and swept back. The sides gently sweep down and back to the
reverse of the cap. It is produced in a green wool with a tricot weave. There is
minor discoloration throughout the exterior. A pencil tip sized hole is seen
underneath the rear of the top panel, at the back of the cap. There are a few
nips on the very bottom of the cap as well, where the wool folds over and into
the interior of the cap. The white wool piping has some minor/moderate
discoloration and a small amount of tracking in a few areas. The centerband is
excellent and produced in a black badge cloth. The nickel/silver insignia has
toned nicely, especially the eagle. When this cap was purchased from the family
of the veteran, the skull was missing. A well-matched original skull was
reapplied to the cap. The black leather "Other Ranks" chinstrap is
perfect, the black buttons holding it nice and tight to the cap. One of the
buttons is missing its finish. The black Vulkanfibre visor shows some moderate
crazing but is just fine otherwise. The underside of the visor has a
brownish-orange finish and is crosshatched. The interior is fully lined in a
gold rayon. There is some moderate staining to the top panel. You can see the
ErEl motto, along with the model of this cap ("Extra") in silver at
the center of the top panel. This has faded due to the fact that the moisture
shield is gone but you can still read it with ease. The sweatband is produced in
a pebbled brown leather and is perforated at the forehead area. There is minor
discoloration from use to the sweatband, which is fully intact and damage-free.
The wearer's left side has the "ErEl Stirnschutze" motto in silver
(this is what is considered a "double ErEl"). The cap is a size 55. An
extremely desirable and scarce cap and the first by this maker I've ever owned!
