HG-44 Excellent Named and Unit Marked Allgemeine-SS
NCO’s Visor Cap
This beauty is produced in black tricot wool that shows just the
slightest hint of wear, remaining very clean. There is one tiny, literally pin
point size hole underneath the top of the cap on the left rear. This is barely
noticeable due to the out of sight location. The white piping is excellent, with
just slight discoloration. The peak is fairly prominent, with gently sloping
sides. The centerband is produced in black tricot wool as well, this is
excellent with no issues. The silvered tombac insignia is original to the cap.
The eagle retains 85% of the finish, while the totenkopf is missing all of its
finish. There is a black leather “Other Ranks” chincord that is attached to
the cap via a pair of small black buttons. This has some slight crazing but is
otherwise very sound. The black vulkanfibre visor is tightly affixed to the cap,
showing some moderate crazing to the finish. The underside of the visor is
finished in an orange/brown hue, and has the textbook black “RZM SS” ink
stamp. The interior is excellent with just minor wear from use. The liner of the
cap is lined in an orange/brown oil cloth which is fully intact. The lining is
stamped in black ink “VA 1938” inside a square. There is a diamond
shaped clear moisture shield covering the gold encircled SS runes that are also
stamped onto the upper liner. The other marking on the liner indicates the size,
which is 57. There is a small pocket in the moisture shield which has a piece of
paper that lists the owner’s name and Unit. This says “Rudolf Baler 9.Komp
10/56 SS ? 74-462”. The sides of the cap are lined in a white cheesecloth.
There is a brown leather sweatband, perforated at the forehead. This is
excellent, remaining fully intact. Underneath the sweatband there is a large RZM
tag, which lists the maker (hersteller) number of “35” indicating the cap
was produced by Gundermann und Kornacker of Magdeburg. An excellent example of
this desirable cap!
