HG-44a Handsome Allgemeine-SS NCO’s Visor Cap
This example is produced in black tricot wool that shows just the
slightest hint of wear, remaining very clean. There is some minor tracking
visible as well. The white piping has been attacked by moths, with lots of
little bites throughout. The peak is fairly prominent, with gently sloping
sides. The centerband is produced in black tricot wool as well, this is
excellent with no issues. The silvered tombac insignia is original to the cap.
The eagle retains nearly all of its original finish; it is missing one prong so
is loose on the cap. The totenkopf retains 50% of its finish. There is a black
leather “Other Ranks” chincord that is attached to the cap via a pair of
small black buttons. The black vulkanfibre visor is tightly affixed to the cap,
showing some minor crazing to the finish. The underside of the visor is finished
in an orange/brown hue, and has the black “RZM SS” ink stamp. The interior
is excellent with just minor wear from use. Overall the shape of the cap is
slightly twisted but placement on a head form takes care of that. The private
purchase cap is fully lined in an off-white silk that has just minor
discoloration. There is a diamond shaped clear moisture shield that is mostly
intact, missing just a small section. Stamped onto the lining in gold are
encircled SS runes. Also stamped in the same fashion is the size, which is 55
1/2. There is a brown leather sweatband, perforated at the forehead. This is
excellent, remaining tightly affixed to the cap and fully intact. Underneath the
sweatband there is a large black oilcloth RZM tag, which lists the maker (hersteller)
number of “4”, indicating the cap was produced by Clemens Wagner of
Braunschweig. A sound example overall!
