Other Ranks / NCO personnel, with a nice, high, front peak and well sloped sides
that give the cap a well defined appearance. The fine black wool fabric is in
remarkably nice condition considering its age. There are no visible signs of
damage to the exterior. The cap is nicely piped in white cord, with the thicker
piping around the crown and the narrower diameter piping above and below the
centerband. The insignia is super, in very darkly toned nickel/silver
tomback based material. The cap has an excellent Enlisted Man’s chinstrap and
black side buttons. The black visor with its hand lacquered surface is nice and
tight. The cap interior is standard SS Enlisted Man, with a dark reddish-tan
visor underside with a clear RZM SS ink stamping. The liner has a tan colored
sweatband, which is in fine condition, and a dull orange colored oilcloth top
lining. The caps sides are lined in a reddish-tan cotton fabric. There is
a large section in the forehead area where this is missing. It reveals the
white mesh interior lining. The sweatband overlaps in the back and is secured
with an “X” stitch. The forehead area is perforated to improve air
circulation. The cap has a fine RZM rectangular oilcloth tag under
the sweatband with the Hersteller (maker) code identified as “4”. The
top interior lining is quite clean, with an excellent diamond-shaped moisture
shield (standard on Allgemeine–SS caps). Printed on the lining beneath in gold
ink are the circled SS runes. There is also a size-mark “55 1/2”. A very
sharp example (great exterior) of the highly desirable Allgemeine cap, priced
fairly!
